CENTCOM wrote in their announcement that the strikes were “a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” in reference to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter.

“Last night, the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump described in a post on Truth Social.

It was not immediately clear whether the Apache was shot down by Iranian fire, experienced mechanical failure, or encountered some other problem.

Iran fired more than 20 ballistic missiles at Israel, as the IDF warned the renewed conflict could last several days and intensify further.
