Earlier in the day, Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez defended the government's actions following the quakes amid growing frustration over what many have called a delayed and inadequate response.

“It must be understood that security coordination with a country with which we have no ties, where we have no embassy and no logistical or diplomatic rear base, is far more difficult," Magen said.

“Preparing for an earthquake is one of the most complex challenges facing the health system," said Health Ministry Director General Moshe Bar Siman Tov.

Ambassador Yoed Magen, who grew up in Venezuela, will lead the Foreign Ministry’s activities, while Home Front Command Chief of Staff Brig.-Gen. Elad Edri will command the IDF delegation.

Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said on Monday that she is "willing to do whatever it takes" to enter Venezuela to help with the country's recovery efforts following last week's earthquakes.

Residents in Caracas were woken by a new aftershock as Venezuela’s earthquake death toll approached 1,500.

The delegation comprises 16 rescue personnel, along with other professionals from the Magen - Disaster & Emergency Management Company, Israel's Ready for Rescue non-profit, and SmartAID.

There were no immediate official reports of casualties or damage from the earthquake, but checks were ongoing, the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority said in a statement.
