Gaza Board of Peace: 'Assessment will be guided by actions, not promises' • Hamas says move made to facilitate handover of administrative powers to technocratic committee

If Gaza is once again allowed to be under the bombardment of Israel and the terror of Hamas, then the ceasefire will officially come to an end and Hamas will control the territory.

"The Gaza committee is an Israeli recipe for reinforcing Palestinian division," Rajoub said. "We should never have agreed to or accepted the committee under any circumstances."

Among the 15 points, Mladenov states that Hamas must be gradually disarmed and removed from civilian structure in Gaza, and that both parties must fulfill their commitments under the ceasefire.

"This is not what was promised to the Palestinians, and it is not what they deserve," Mladenov said. "Furthermore, this does not provide Israel with the security it needs to move forward."

This institutional design may explain why several European governments have stayed out. The United Kingdom, France, and Germany have declined to participate. The Vatican has formally refused. 

The force is expected to consist of thousands of Palestinian officers who will be trained in Egypt and Jordan, before being deployed in the Gaza Strip, with the task of maintaining order.

"[Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is the founder of the Palestinian state," MK Avigdor Liberman (Israel Beytenu) said of the change in a post to X/Twitter. 

Military leaders warn that failure to disarm Hamas could trigger renewed operations even as diplomacy moves forward.

“I actually was the organizer of this activity or this national act in the city of Khan Yunis [in the Gaza Strip]," Chief Commissioner Ali Shaath said in an interview.
