President Isaac Herzog paused a ceremony honoring lone immigrants to condemn the Hanukkah attack in Sydney and urge Australia to take stronger action against rising antisemitism.

"Our hearts are with the community, and we stand with them," Aliyah and Integration Minister Ofir Sofer said at the event honoring lone soldiers at the President's Residence in Jerusalem.

Survey results also demonstrated that the vast majority of Israelis expect military conflict in the near future, with Hezbollah being the most likely, followed by Iran.

The President’s Residence unequivocally denied any connection between Herzog and the memorandum. Officials told reporters that Herzog did not know the document until the media contacted him.

The meeting, which Israel’s UN representative Danny Danon was also present for, took place at the President's Residence in Jerusalem.

The audience erupted in shouting and several people called “shame” in Hebrew at the delegates, one of whom held a sign reading “Please, Pardon Natanyahu!”

Netanyahu was indicted in 2020 on the charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three separate cases: 1000, 2000, and 4000. 

America is being tested as to whether it can keep its republic, just as we are being tested as to whether we can retain our democracy. Let us all hope that both of us can pass the test.

Captain Daniel Perez was murdered during the October 7 massacre. His remains were returned to Israel on October 13, 2025. His father, Rabbi Doron, was recently elected WZO president.

“Returning to Zion and connecting to Israel are cornerstones of Jewish faith for thousands of years. Delegitimizing that right encourages violence and threatens religious freedom," said Herzog.
