Western academic bone fides helped Hamas gain international legitimacy, even for its terror actions, to which global condemnations of Israel’s war against Hamas attest.

The campus SJP chapter said in a statement that the school “has failed to acknowledge the emotions and well-being of its Palestinian and Muslim students.”

The chapter has two business days to appeal the “interim” suspension. The university did not say how long the suspension would last if upheld.

Jew hatred is never isolated. Jews have long been the canary in the coal mine, first to be attacked and last to be spared.

The GW chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine has become the third to be suspended in US universities amid a rise in antisemitic incidents.

The State of Florida has claimed that these chapters’ activity has violated the law making it a felony to “knowingly provide material support... to a designated foreign terrorist organization.”

The announcement of the suspension comes after Jewish groups and state legislators signed a letter demanding universities withdraw their schools’ recognition and funding for SJP following October 7.

“Divesting from any company that supports Iran and ensuring that students are able to attend Jewish Day Schools safely is of utmost importance,” Florida Governor DeSantis said.

“This decision was not made lightly, as Brandeis is dedicated to upholding free speech principles,” the university wrote in its letter, which the Jewish Telegraphic Agency obtained.

Brandeis told the student group that open support for Hamas was a violation of the school's principles. SJP called the decision "purely racist."
