The UK, Canada, France, and 10 other countries announced plans to impose national restrictions on goods from Israeli settlements, in a surprise coordinated move.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also responded to the reports of the settlement trade ban by calling for Israel to recognize the Falkland Islands as "Argentine territory under occupation."

Israel’s ongoing threats to punish countries that take measures against settlements in the West Bank and goods they produce remind me of expressions describing having things both ways.

British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband told the House of Commons last week the UK needs “a comprehensive reset of our policy” when it comes to the West Bank.

It was not immediately clear when the operation would begin, with reports from Israeli media pointing out that hundreds of settlements could be removed.

"I didn't think it would take so much time to recover," he said. "We're not giving up. Kibbutz Nir Oz will prosper so that new families will come."

British sanctions on Israel trade could, however, cause a split inside the Labor Party, where a third of the party has signed a letter to the new PM calling for sharp measures against settlements.
