The dispute over the Strait of Hormuz now centers on diplomatic wording, as the US, Iran, and Oman argue over whether future “services” and “costs” could become tolls under a different name.

Tehran reasserted its claim over the Strait of Hormuz and warned Gulf states after a joint US-Gulf statement rejected Iranian toll demands, while reports said tankers were turned back by the IRGC.

Both countries emphasize “their sovereignty and sovereign rights over their territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz” and “agreed to maintain their dialogue on this issue."

Short-term violations of the US-Iran ceasefire remain possible, in particular in and around the Strait of Hormuz and neighboring airspace, the agency said.

Gulf Arab leaders are expected to press Marco Rubio over a draft Iran agreement they fear could reshape regional security and boost Tehran’s power.

The deaths are the first reported since the blockade began on April 13, operations which have seen the US disable eight ships and turn back more than 100 others.

Former US ambassador to Oman, Marc Sievers, told The Jerusalem Post that Oman's inaction has “undermined their reputation” in the eyes of the US.

The Gulf is drifting toward Israel faster than any normalization summit could have achieved, but internal American politics is lowering the pressure on Iran.

The report comes less than a week after US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Oman if it joined Iran's planned tolling of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Foreign Minister also made comments on Friday, saying he had discussed the Strait of Hormuz and its future administration with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi.
