First aircraft on another world reestablishes contact with earth

The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter arrived on the red planet together with the Mars Perseverance rover, which was launched in July 2020.

NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter was captured by the Perseverance rover’s Mastcam-Z on April 16, not long after the rotorcraft’s 50th flight. The helicopter would soon fall silent for 63 days due hilly terrain that interrupted communications between the rover and aircraft.

NASA engineers create VR software to visualize a universe of data

Now, a piece of datum wasn't a mark on a screen. It's a thing that can be held, moved, and placed.

A researcher examines a data cloud in a virtual world created by Virtualitics software. NASA scientists need to sift through massive amounts of data generated by deep space missions. Efforts at JPL into using virtual reality to assist in this analysis led to the creation of Virtualitics

NASA Mars simulation begins, crew will be inside for one year

Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) mission is designed to test the ability of the researchers to operate in highly challenging conditions, such as they would face on Mars.

A CHAPEA logo, Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog, is seen on the entrance door of the Mars Dune Alpha, NASA's simulated Mars habitat, being used as preparations for sending humans to the Red Planet, at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, U.S. April 11, 2023.

NASA's Curiosity rover sends back 'postcard' of Martian 'sunrise'

The photos were originally taken in black and white, by the Curiosity’s navigation cameras, but they had color added later on Earth.

NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover used its black-and-white navigation cameras to capture panoramas of “Marker Band Valley” at two times of day on April 8. Color was added to a combination of both panoramas for an artistic interpretation of the scene.

Photosynthesis can make life in space, on Mars, Moon sustainable - study

Utilizing a device to use solar power for photosynthesis, converting water into oxygen for air supply and hydrogen for fuel, could be used for sustainable occupation of Mars and the Moon.

NASA's Perseverance may have found a former large river on Mars

The discovery was made due to Perseverance’s Mastcam-Z capturing of the rover's hundreds of images.

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover took this selfie near rock nicknamed “Rochette,” found on Jezero Crater’s floor, on Sept. 10, 2021, the 198th Martian day, or sol, of the mission.
