Non-Jewish people should be able to explore Jewish traditions and elements without having to commit to converting.

The decision has temporarily ended a months-long saga of rejections, petitions from influential figures and accusations of racism.

Jared Armstrong, 24, cannot play his sport in Israel because his visa has expired and he hasn’t been granted Israeli citizenship - his conversion has come under question.

While the State of Israel in 2022 may not yet be fully redeemed, these words do provide a certain sense of optimism and renewal. 

“We wrote the letter not as an attack but as a policy disagreement and a concern about the law as written," said OU vice president Rabbi Moshe Hauer.

This family has lived only as a Jewish family, including celebrating Shabbat and all Jewish festivals. The children have been raised Jewish. They want to make aliyah.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett listened attentively to the words of the representatives of the organizations and agreed to continue the dialogue on the various issues.

The “Who is a Jew” issue waxes and wanes as a communal priority; at the moment it appears to be waning.
