Multiple clashes were reported between a group of Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank town of Huwara, the IDF said in a statement on Saturday.

"IDF and Border Guard forces rushed to several locations in the Hawara area in the Samaria Brigade, following a report of suspected theft of sheep belonging to Israeli civilians, in order to remove the Israeli civilians and the sheep from the village and prevent friction in the area," the military said.

The clashes included incidents of stone throwing and the use of clubs between Israeli civilians and Palestinians, according to the IDF.

Army radio also reported that some of the settlers involved in the incident were masked and that several Palestinians were injured, something that was later denied by the IDF.

"The forces worked to disperse the gatherings using riot control measures. The gatherings were dispersed, and security forces are in the area to prevent further disturbances," the statement said.

Investigation opened over clashes in Huwara

The military also said that the Sha'a District Police had opened an investigation over the clashes in Huwara.

"The IDF strongly condemns violence of any kind that harms security in the area and diverts the attention of commanders and fighters from engaging in defensive and counterterrorism missions," the military added.

The statement also addressed footage captured by people present at the site of the clashes, in which IDF soldiers were "acting violently towards a Palestinian," saying that "the actions seen in the video are serious and inconsistent with the IDF's values."

"The case is being investigated. If the soldier is found, he will be dealt with disciplinary action, and command and disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the findings," the military clarified.
