Using a qualitative, phenomenological approach, the researchers analyzed 203 dream narratives collected in the wake of the October 7, 2023, Hamas terror attack and the Israel–Hamas war that followed.

The researchers found that loneliness directly influences the levels of five specific proteins. Four of these proteins are associated with brain regions that perform emotional and social tasks.
