Arkia is halting ticket sales for flights to Marrakesh, following demands by Israeli security officials. The company announced on Wednesday that it is in contact with the relevant authorities and is examining the possibility of continuing to operate the route to Morocco, alongside the implications for passengers who have already purchased tickets.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the recent cancellation of flights on the Tokyo route and the lawsuit filed against the company following the disruptions. Now, beyond halting sales, the question remains open as to what will happen to flights already sold to passengers planning to reach the North African destination.

The route to Marrakesh was inaugurated last August with Arkia's maiden flight, which was also attended by Transportation Minister Miri Regev, who made sure to take credit for renewing the direct route between Tel Aviv and Marrakesh after a hiatus of about three years.

In the company's statement, it was reported that if Israeli authorities decide to stop flights by Israeli airlines to Marrakesh, Arkia is examining alternatives that would allow the continued operation of the route, including operating flights through its commercial partners.

Arkia emphasized that the company will update passengers in accordance with guidelines and decisions that are made, and will continue to provide updates as developments occur.

At this stage, halting sales does not necessarily constitute an announcement of the cancellation of all flights already booked. The fate of existing flights and the option to operate them under an alternative framework will be determined according to decisions by authorities and in coordination with relevant parties.
