One of the most popular hiking destinations in the Jerusalem Hills has received a major makeover. The Jewish National Fund (JNF-KKL) has completed a comprehensive upgrade project at the Aminadav Forest visitor center and the Kennedy Memorial complex - a popular destination for hikers, cyclists, and families that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

The project included extensive renovations to the visitor reception area, upgraded infrastructure, and the construction of a new service building that features a forest ranger office, a protected space, a water reservoir, and a green roof. In addition, access roads to the site were improved, accessible trails were added, and a new observation point offering views of the Jerusalem Hills was created.

As part of the renovations, a new signage system was installed, providing visitors with historical information and recommendations for hiking routes in the area. Visitors can also enjoy renovated public restrooms and the popular Bar Bahar café, known as one of the area’s favorite stopping points thanks to its scenic terrace overlooking the landscape.

Located southwest of Jerusalem, Aminadav Forest covers approximately 1,730 acres and is considered one of the region’s largest green spaces. The forest offers hiking and cycling trails, natural springs, archaeological sites, and scenic viewpoints. At its center stands the Kennedy Memorial - one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Jerusalem Hills.

JNF-KKL noted that the renovation of the forest visitor center is the first stage of a broader project. In the coming months, conservation and restoration work is also expected to begin at the Kennedy Memorial itself, which was inaugurated in 1966 in memory of former United States President John F. Kennedy.

JNF-KKL Chairman Eyal Ostrinsky said: "The inauguration of the renewed Aminadav Forest visitor center is a direct expression of JNF-KKL’s leading vision, which seeks to create a harmonious connection between national heritage, nature, and an accessible, advanced visitor experience. JNF-KKL does not only plant forests - it develops, preserves, and makes Israel’s heritage assets accessible to the entire public, with environmental responsibility and a long-term perspective. This upgrade will ensure that the hundreds of thousands of visitors who visit the site each year enjoy modern infrastructure, full accessibility, and a unique natural experience."

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion said: "Jerusalem is blessed with being surrounded by some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in Israel. The Jerusalem Hills and the forests surrounding them are an inseparable part of the quality of life for residents of the city and the entire region. Therefore, our commitment to preserving, nurturing, and making them accessible to the public is deep and ongoing. The new Aminadav Forest visitor center is an excellent example of cooperation that brings together nature, heritage, and leisure, providing thousands of visitors with a meeting point with the unique landscape of the Jerusalem Hills. This is how the vision we signed together with JNF-KKL becomes a reality - for the benefit of residents today and future generations."
