Hundreds of haredi (ultra-Orthodox) individuals gathered to protest the expansion of the light rail in the Bar-Ilan Street area of northern Jerusalem on Thursday night, Ynet reported.
Protesters reportedly tore down fences, set fire to cardboard installations, and attempted to break into the construction site.
Police arrested a suspect in an arson attack in the area and took him in for questioning. The alleged arson attack was reportedly connected to the anti-light rail protest.
Additionally, another suspect was arrested on the scene after allegedly throwing stones at security forces.
"During the ongoing force activity to restore public order and disperse rioters, another suspect was arrested after he was identified as throwing stones at police and Border Police soldiers," the police said in a statement.
