Former Gaza hostage Bar Kupershtein said that the Hamas terrorist who held him in Gaza broke his leg in retaliation for the incident in the Sde Teiman detention center, where a Palestinian prisoner was allegedly beaten by the security forces in the base.
"They took Yosef Chaim Ohana and me, and broke my leg. They said that it was because of Netanyahu, Ben Gvir, because of Sde Teiman," Kupershtein said in an interview for KAN Reshet Bet. "At first I didn't understand what they were talking about, so they showed me the video."
"They didn't tell me much more, so I had no idea what Sde Teiman was meant to be. The only thing they said was: 'Next time we will kill you," he added.
The Sde Teiman case first came to light due to a leaked video that showed the alleged abuse of a Palestinian security prisoner, with the latest development being that the IDF Military Advocate General Maj. Gen. Itay Offir, on March 12, announced that he has ordered the cancellation of the indictment against five defendants.
Offir explained that the evidentiary difficulties in the case, combined with the scandal surrounding the leaked video, led to the former prosecutorial team itself being probed, making it too difficult to continue the case.
Kupershtein: I'm grateful I have other things to worry about now
Kupershtein also revealed during the interview that someone had broken into his car a few months ago, smashed the window, and stolen his phone.
"I'm grateful that my problems now are a smashed window and a stolen phone," he said.
"Last Passover, my dad had to write in the 'Why is this night different than any other' part of the Seder that it was different because I'll be home," Kupershtein added. "I'm looking at life completely different."
