Support among US Jewry for the Iran war eroded as the operations continued, a survey published on Sunday by the independent Jerusalem-based think-tank Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) found.
During the first week of Operations Epic Fury and Roaring Lion, 68% of US Jews supported the war, declining to 62% by the third week, and 60% as the ceasefire came into effect, JPPI's data showed.
Similarly, opposition to the operations also rose, from 26% at the start of the war to 34% currently.
Additionally, JPPI found that support among Canadian and British Jews was high during the start of the war, at 81% and 75%, respectively.
However, support in both of these communities also eroded to 73% and 60%, respectively.
The data also found that 53% of respondents thought most of their Jewish acquaintances supported the war, but this fell to 43% within a month.
Rising amount of US Jews perceive Iran war as 'failure'
JPPI also found that a rising number of US Jews found that the war was a "failure." Initially, 14% of respondents held this view, but the latest data show this has increased to 25%.
Meanwhile, the number viewing it as a "major success" fell from 24% to 14% in the same period.
A majority, though, still view the war as "successful": 56%, down from the 66% who held this view in March.
In March, 46% of US respondents believed that the war's success depended on regime change in Iran, but this fell to 38% this month.
This month, the number of respondents who were "satisfied with goals of deterrence and threat reduction" increased slightly, with 24% believing that preventing another war for at least five years counts as a success, and 19% believing that they are satisfied with weakening Iran even if there is another conflict escalation within that period.
Strong support for military blockade of Strait of Hormuz
A majority of respondents from all three countries said that they support a military blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Out of the US respondents, 59% said they support the move, compared with 28% who oppose.
In Canada, 75% support the blockade, including 56% who strongly support it.
In the UK, 65% of respondents support the blockade while 16% oppose.
Almost two-thirds of US Jews view Gaza war as success
JPPI also queried perceptions over whether the Israel-Hamas War in the Gaza Strip was successful.
Out of US Jews, 63% perceived the war as successful, while 21% defined it as a failure.
Out of UK respondents, 59% perceived it as successful, while 19% viewed it as a failure.
In Canada, the war was viewed most favorably, with 73% viewing it as a success and 10% as a failure.
Majority of US Jews view Israel's war against Hezbollah in Lebanon as success
The institute also found that 61% of US Jews consider the war in Lebanon against Hezbollah terrorists as a success, while 27% see it as somewhat unsuccessful or a failure.
The survey also found that perceptions of US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's performance regarding Iran have declined since the start of the war, but noted that confidence in Netanyahu's leadership is higher than in Trump's management of the operation.
Approximately half of those surveyed attributed the erosion of Israel's standing in the US to "rising anti-Jewish sentiment," while approximately a quarter attributed it to Israel's actions.
Additionally, a majority of respondents cite Israel as a central consideration in choosing a congressional candidate in November's slated midterm elections, with approximately half of US respondents saying they intend to vote for a Democrat and one-third saying they intend to vote for a Republican.
The survey was conducted with 806 Jews who registered for JPPI's Voice of the Jewish People panel. It included 48 participants in the UK and 108 in Canada. The data was collected between April 15 and 19.
