Belgian prosecutors have requested a two-year prison sentence for a resident of Namur, in the south of the country, accused of threatening to slit the throats of his Jewish landlord’s family members, Belgian news agency Belga reported on Saturday.
According to the charges, the threats followed the landlord's visit to collect overdue payments. The defendant also allegedly drew swastikas in the common areas of the apartment building.
He faces charges of threatening to carry out a terrorist attack, Holocaust denial, and harassment.
Defendant is also accused of harassing downstairs neighbor
He is also accused of harassing a neighbor of foreign origin who lived in the apartment below him by cursing at her, spitting at her, and banging on the floor for hours at night to keep her from sleeping.
Some of the alleged acts date back to June 2022, but the case against him is still ongoing.
The defendant did not appear in court for the hearing. In seeking a prison sentence, the prosecutor cited the severity of the alleged acts and his repeated failures to appear before judicial authorities.
