After announcing the discontinuation of the Model S and Model X, Tesla is now trying to revive sales of its weakest commercial model in the lineup, the Cybertruck pickup.

When it was unveiled in 2019, Elon Musk promised an electric pickup priced at $40,000 that would defeat the hugely popular gasoline pickups in the U.S., with a futuristic design and stainless-steel construction technology. However, much more expensive versions reached the market, with the base model costing $80,000 until recently and the reinforced Cyberbeast priced at $100,000 .

The result was that after promises of millions of reservations and later annual production of a quarter of a million pickups, fewer than 40,000 units were sold in 2024 and only 20,000 in 2025. That is less than the Ford F‑150 Lightning with 27,000 units, and a similar number to the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. For Ford, those figures were enough to halt production of the model.

Now the pickup is receiving a $60,000 version, with dual-motor all-wheel drive, a range of 524 km, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, and towing capacity of 3.5 tons instead of 5 tons. The specification has also been trimmed: 20-inch lightweight wheels instead of 18-inch wheels, a 9-inch rear-seat screen, air suspension has been removed although adaptive dampers remain, leather upholstery has been replaced by fabric, and the audio system has been reduced to 7 speakers instead of 15.

At the new price, the Cybertruck in the U.S. is $3,000 more expensive than the Model Y Performance, which costs NIS 334,000 in Israel. In Israel, the Cybertruck would be eligible for a tax benefit of NIS 30,000 granted to electric commercial vehicles. Will this be what finally brings the Cybertruck to Israel through official imports, after it has already arrived via parallel import channels?

The pickup has already been displayed for a year on the Tesla Israel website, without a price and without an option to place an order. During this time, the model has finally undergone public crash tests and received a “Good” rating and a “Top Safety Pick” designation in tests conducted by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
